The Stermans was initiated by the idea of ‘what is an alien?’ Haryn believed the aliens could be just the extreme future version of humankind, evolved with the special features that are essential for the upcoming environment.

The story takes place in the mid-2100s, when rising sea levels pushed humanity to the brink of extinction after devastating disasters caused by global warming. The wealthy elites sought survival through the most radical solution: genetic fusion with lobsters.

They believed that by incorporating the lobster's unusually high telomerase activity, an enzyme that maintains the protective ends of chromosomes, they could dramatically slow aging and achieve biological immortality. This immortality would preserve their wealth forever, both above and below the water, making the lobster the perfect candidate for genetic fusion.

Decades later, the (lob)Ster(hu)mans emerged, inhabiting lavish cities both underwater and on land, seen by humans—non-genetically fused—as alien beings.
